Partenope_10-03-2015

Broadcasts from the San Francisco Opera continue on Classical 90.5 at noon this Saturday, October 3, with a performance of Partenope by Georg Frideric Handel. The librettist is unknown. The performance will be sung in Italian and will run approximately two hours and forty-five minutes. Julian Wachner conducts.

Disguises and cross-dressing reveal deep truths about the human heart in Handel’s brilliantly entertaining comedy about Queen Partenope of Naples and her three royal suitors, which features one of his greatest scores. In his Olivier Award-winning production, director Christopher Alden moves the action to 1920s Paris, and the results are never less than riveting.
