San Francisco Opera

Rigoletto_08-29-2015

The 2015 season of broadcasts from the San Francisco Opera begins on Classical 90.5 at noon this Saturday, August 29, with a performance of Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi, set to a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, whose inspiration came from the play Le roi s'amuse by Victor Hugo. The performance will be sung in Italian and will run approximately two hours and fifteen minutes. Nicola Luisotti conducts.

It’s every parent’s nightmare. The child you adore falls victim to an alluring predator who isn't what he claims to be. Verdi's powerful tragedy explores the dark side within us all through one of his most compelling characters, the court jester whose rage inspires coldblooded revenge...and one of the most chilling final scenes in all of opera.
