With final statewide election results in, Arizona elections officials hope this means an end of an era of consistent challenges to election results.
Arizona Secretary of State Adrien Fontes called the age of election denialism “dead,” as he certified the official statewide election results on Monday, Nov. 25,
But Attorney General Kris Mayes said restoring confidence in elections will be an ongoing effort, citing ongoing litigation surrounding her own election in 2022.
“I’m not convinced that we’re there yet, and I think it’s the job of everyone sitting up here today and throughout our state to continue to drive home the message that Arizona has safe and secure and accurate elections,” she said.
The certification marks the start of a five day window where candidates can file lawsuits challenging the results, a tactic many Republican candidates have attempted since 2020.
Final voting numbers show Donald Trump’s margin of victory surpassed 187,000 votes. In 2020, President Joe Biden won the state by just 10,457 votes.
Voter turnout in Arizona dropped since the record-turnout 2020 election.
According to Fontes, 2024 saw 78.49% turnout, which is about a 1.5% decrease from 29.9% turnout in 2020.
