One million Arizona residents are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to data published by the Arizona Department of Health Services on Tuesday morning.

The milestone means that 13.89% of all Arizona residents are fully vaccinated, not just those over the age of 16 who are eligible to be vaccinated this year.

Health experts say herd immunity against COVID-19 will be reached when approximately 70% of the total population has received the full course of the vaccine.

For people receiving the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines full vaccination happens about two weeks after their second dose. For those receiving the Johnson and Johnson vaccine immunity comes about two weeks after the single dose.

In Pima County, about 15% of all residents are vaccinated according to ADHS. In Cochise County, about 12.5% of residents are fully inoculated. In Santa Cruz County, the number jumps to close to 19% of all residents.

The state hopes to have all residents, over the age of 16, receive at least their first dose of the vaccine by the summer.
