A wildfire burning for the last week south of Patagonia has been largely subdued, and crews continued mop-up operations Saturday, a federal wildfire reporting service said.
The Soldier Basin Fire, six miles south of Patagonia and five miles east of the Nogales airport, was 75 percent contained Saturday morning, after burning 10,775 acres, the Incident Information System reported. It is the largest wildfire in Arizona so far this year.
"Thursday, firefighters completed black line around the perimeter of the fire," the report said, referring to the fire line created to stop the flames from spreading. It said fire would continue burning within the perimeter, likely until the area receives rain.
More than 200 crew members fought the fire, and many of them were being demobilized Friday and Saturday.
