Sales-Tax Hike for Arizona?

Proposition 100 Debate: The Pro and Con of the Sales Tax Hike Proposal

Two sides in the debate over the May 18th election, where voters are being asked to approve a temporary sales-tax increase. If the tax increase passes, total sales taxes for Tucson residents will go up 1 cent per dollar, to 9.1 cents.

One study determined the tax would cost an average of $400 per household. Farrell Quinlan, State Director of the National Federation of Independent Businesses says Arizona can't afford a tax increase with an already fragil economy.

Pete Hershberger, former Arizona representative in the state legislature says Arizona can't afford not to pass Proposition 100. Failure to pass it, according to Mr. Hershberger, would have a terrible impact on schools, health and public safety.
