The Arizona Department of Gaming seized a record-breaking number of firearms in an alleged illegal gambling investigation in Tucson.

Gaming officials said over the course of a year-long investigation of illegal gun raffles on Oct. 30 in partnership with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, investigators seized over 450 guns, plus ammunition, and over $4,000 in cash.

“Record-breaking seizures like this only further highlight the criminal activity that illegal gambling establishments attract when they go unregulated, posing a significant threat to public safety," said Director Jackie Johnson in a press release.

Investigators did not disclose a specific location of the illegal gambling operation, but urged residents to make sure raffles or other forms of charitable or social gambling comply with the law and to report illegal gambling activity to the Department.

Two people have been arrested and now face multiple felony charges in connection with the scheme, including money laundering and conducting an illegal enterprise.

A spokesperson for the Department of Gaming said only limited information is available due to the circumstances of an ongoing investigation.
