In the most competitive Pima County Supervisors race, incumbent Democrat Rex Scott is raising substantially more than his Republican challenger Steve Spain, according to newly filed finance reports.
Scott narrowly beat Spain the first time they faced off for the District 1 seat, in 2020. The district, which includes a section of central Tucson, the Catalina Foothills, and Oro Valley, is nearly matched in registered Republicans and Democrats, with only slightly fewer independent voters.
The Democratic incumbent raised more than $33,000 from individual contributions in the most recent quarter — five times what the Republican challenger raised from individual contributions.
To date, Scott has raised more than 1-and-a-half times what Spain has during this race.
Scott is the first Democrat to hold the seat since 1972.
