The Tucson Unified School District Governing Board has voted to sell the district's historic headquarters on E. 10th St.
The deal has not been finalized, but the board approved moving forward with the sale by a 4-1 vote.
The proposed buyer MDL Development of Delaware will pay 17-5 million dollars for the property with a plan to build private housing for U of A students.
TUSD plans to buy a larger building, the former University of Arizona Service Annex just north of downtown and set up offices there.
The Arizona Board or Regents will have to approve the sale of university property to TUSD at its next meeting
TUSD expects to clear approximately 1.3 million dollars in profit from the transition —as opposed to the nearly 7.5 million it would have cost to renovate its old headquarters.
