Governor Katie Hobbs signed an executive order to send the Arizona National Guard to the U.S.-Mexico border to help with enforcement activities, including fentanyl interdiction and increased migrant crossings.
There are currently 243 service members in the region, and the state is sending them to multiple locations along the border, including near the recently closed Lukeville port of entry and at the San Miguel crossing, which are both experiencing a surge of migrant crossings.
The order also says the Department of Public Safety will increase operations along the southern border.
