The U.S. Department of Homeland Security estimates that the number of illegal immigrants living in Arizona has declined sharply since 2008.
The report in the Arizona Republic says the number of illegal immigrants living in Arizona fell from 560,000 to 360,000 between 2008 and January 2011. The primary factor behind the drop was a lack of jobs during the recession, the agency says, but tighter border enforcement and tough immigration laws were contributing factors.
