After more than two months in office, Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild is sizing up the city, saying revenue is up, but not quite enough to cover rising costs, such as pensions and health insurance.
"There's just so much in the way of deferred maintenance for roads, transit, for dealing with pensions, that we still have challenges that lie ahead," Rothschild says.
He hopes to lay out a plan for how to address that, without layoffs or furlough days, he says. However, the budget will still take years to recover from the recession, Rothschild says.
"It really doesn't address our long-term issues," he says, including debt and expiring grants.
Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild's "State of the City" address is at noon Tuesday at the Tucson Convention Center.
