Republicans take lead in Cochise County Board of Supervisors races

However, nearly 15,000 ballots still need to be tabulated.

Unofficial election results show that Republicans may make a clean sweep of the Cochise County Board of Supervisors.

According to votes counted on Thursday morning, Republican candidates Kathleen Gomez, former state senator Frank Antenori, and incumbent Tom Crosby were leading their races.

Crosby’s lead comes after two years' worth of legal battles following his choice not to certify the 2022 midterm election. Crosby along with outgoing supervisor Peggy Judd did not want to certify the results due to unproven concerns about voter fraud. Both supervisors faced felony charges, but Judd pled guilty to a misdemeanor–a lesser charge. The state declined to comment about a deal for Crosby, the lone incumbent in this year’s election.

However, 14,565 thousand ballots still need to be tabulated. The county experienced mechanical issues with the tabulators’ feeding tray.

“Both tabulators were in use today, although they are operating at a slower pace than normal,” the county said last Friday.

Election Systems & Software, the company that makes and sells voting machine equipment, loaned the county a new tabulator over the weekend following the election to speed up the tabulating process.
