Why are you running for office?

Stephanie Stahl Hamilton
Stephanie Stahl Hamilton (D)I am running for office because the state Legislature affects the lives of everyday Arizonans and as a mom of three children and the wife of an educator, it has been a challenge to provide a high quality of life for my family. Education and healthcare are two of the areas where we have felt the constraints of current legislative policy. As I became involved in community based advocacy at the legislature, I realized that I wanted a seat at the policy making table. I am a part of an Arizona working family who has struggled to make ends meet. I know that there are many families who experience the same struggles and it is a privilege to represent them in the state legislature. I am running for re-election because I am not finished with the work I have begun and would like more time in order create more good for not only my constituents but for the whole state.
Akanni Oyegbola
Akanni Oyegbola (D)Before I was a Arizona State candidate.…before I was voted as Acting Mayor of South Tucson City Council….I was a government intern studying Business Management and legislative policy.

With six years of local government experience, I understand how state legislative policies preempt local municipalities.

My personal connection to entrepreneurs and cities is why like so many of you, I want more done for small businesses. I am committed to making our community a better place to live and work. I am running because I believe the future of Arizona lies in the hands of 90 state representatives. I want the well-being of my district to be sustainable through empowerment, economic development (e.g. tourism), health care, housing, mental health, financial literacy, livable wages, mobility, and environmental justice.

I speak to residents frequently and what they want, is a representative who has faced challenges and understands the issues they face on a daily basis.

My goal is simple: help people and communities prosper and create jobs. Focusing on policies that help not hinder the people served, employment, and business investment.

What are you top 3 priorities if elected?

Stephanie Stahl Hamilton
Stephanie Stahl Hamilton (D)I have worked hard in understanding water policy in Arizona and will continue working on issues that effect our water resources as well as the environment and energy resources.

Reproductive rights and freedom has been an issue that I've worked on and will continue to work on, especailly now since Roe v. Wade has been overturned. Finding a path forward for our medical providers as well as care for pregnant people is of the uttmost importance.

I have been on the frontlines working to protect funding for our public schools as well as promoting sound educational policy. I will continue this work because it is vital to our state's future.
Akanni Oyegbola

What is the biggest problem with the way the office you are seeking is working and how do you solve it?

Stephanie Stahl Hamilton
Stephanie Stahl Hamilton (D)The biggest hurdle to a highly functioning House of Representatives is the polarization between the two parties. Many nonpartisan issues, like education, water, and healthcare have become highly politicized and driven by ideology. It takes quite a bit of effort to find common ground in order to have robust conversation and actual committee work when it comes to vetting bills and future policy. Finding common ground and continued conversation across the aisle is the more direct path to dispelling the polarization.
Akanni Oyegbola
Akanni Oyegbola (D)I feel that collaborative partnerships and a supportive policy environment that understands flexibility is critical to balance all perspectives at the State House of Representatives. The future of Arizona will be shaped by the state legislature, businesses local governments, industry, and all community members that embrace climate change and sustainability as an opportunity for innovation, growth and prosperity for all people in our state. By looking deeply into actions, strategies and future planning, the district and its businesses are on their way to ensuring that Arizona will not just survive but thrive. The state legislature will face this together and I want to be apart of the solution.
